Benjamin F. Baker


Benjamin Franklin Baker was a United States Navy sailor and a recipient of Americas highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor. He is the only Medal of Honor winner from Cape Cod.

Benjamin Franklin Baker was born on March 12, 1862 at Dennis Port, Massachusetts. He joined the navy in 1885, and served in the SpanishAmerican War on board USS160Nashville. On May 11, 1898, while serving as a Coxswain, he was one of several men who took part in a boat expedition that cut the underwater telegraph cable off Cienfuegos, Cuba. For his extraordinary bravery and coolness under enemy fire during this operation, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
